While we all know being active is healthy, it’s estimated that 35% of people in America are not active enough. We get it. Cardio sucks, and in general working out can be time-consuming, and brain consuming. Over the past couple of years, HIIT training has been becoming more and more popular, not only because it gets the work over faster but for its incredible overall health benefits.
At GlideFIT we understand that your fitness journey should be fun, fresh, and do the trick. That’s why we spend more of our time building HIIT training circuits that target your entire body and the long-lasting benefits.
Let’s stop being so vague and break down those benefits.
1) Your Metabolic Rate is higher for hours after working out
Studies have shown that those participating in HIIT training have a higher metabolic rate for the next 24 hours in comparison to those weight lifting, or cardio.
When compared to sprinting for 2 minutes or running for 30 minutes research has shown short intense intervals that the metabolic rate continues to stay active. Meaning that your body is using fat for energy instead of carbs.
2) It Reduces Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, and Heart Rate
Although most of these studies show that is doesn’t change with average BMI’s or heart rates, in this category for overweight, or people with high blood pressure and heart rates there is a significant drop in rates for the first 12 weeks.
Other studies with type 2 diabetes have demonstrated the effectiveness of HIIT for improving blood sugar. When your metabolic rate is increased then your insulin resistance is starting to build. This helps to reduce blood sugar and causes your body to burn and use sugars the way that it was meant to.
3) Helps with Oxygen Consumption
Oxygen consumption refers to your muscles’ ability to use oxygen, and endurance training is typically used to improve your oxygen consumption.
Traditionally, this consists of long sessions of continuous running or cycling at a steady rate yet it’s looking like HIIT is creating the same results in a shorter amount of time. Oxygen helps to build and repair muscles, it’s the way your blood transports signals to your body, and it fights inflammation.
You want high oxygen consumption.
4) Burn More Calories/ Fat
As stated above basically your entire body goes into hyperdrive. This means that your body begins to use itself properly which creates a better system in your body. As you are doing HIIT each day, for the next 24 hours your body is still burning fat and using more calories. That means as you maintain a healthy diet, combined with HIIT, you will start losing weight, and fat.
Then, depending on your routine, you can build muscle.
5) It’s Quick
Because of how intense HIIT is, instead of an hour work out, you may only need 15- 30 minutes depending on your program. This is a benefit for those who HATE working out or those who don’t have as much time.
Blast it, and get it done.
Here’s the Rub,
HIIT is good for you. With GlideFIT all our trainers understand these concepts. That’s why there’s always a good warm-up, cool down, and mess around time. The total “workout” is roughly 30 minutes. However, the whole program is an hour, because we want you to have fun on land or in the water.
